A Reflection on the Crown of Thorns

Crown of Thorns, a beautiful reminder to have our mind fixed on Jesus from the moment we rise till the moment we take repose. How many times a day do we fix our minds on life problems? Such as financial crisis, health problems, relationship problems, emptiness, aging the list goes on and on. “In me you have peace. In the world you shall have distress; but have confidence, I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33). “For the thought of man shall give praise to thee: and the remainders of the thought shall keep holiday to thee.” (Psalms 75:11). “Mind the things that are above, not the things that are upon the earth. For you are dead; and your life is hid with Christ in God.” (Colossians 3:2-3).

Oh my! But how the devil does a great job at fixing our minds on life problems! Anything to take our thoughts away from God!

Let us fix are minds on the cruel crowning of thorns; how great must have been the sorrow of Jesus and of our Queen of Martyrs. How great must have been the sorrow of Our Blessed Mother Mary when she accepted into her hands the bloody crown of thorns, the cause of which was our own wicked, proud and impure thoughts! Let us pray to our Lady of Sorrows to grant us the grace of always resisting such wicked thoughts so that by doing so we may help to alleviate her grief. Let us also ask for the grace to always have heaven in our minds at every second of our day especially during the times of trial, temptation, and tribulation.

The crowning of thorns should not only be a reminder of the humiliation Jesus endured for us and our sins, but it is also a great reminder to always fix our minds in heaven and in Jesus. Just as the Roman soldiers pressed the crowning of thorns into Jesus' skull let us always ask Our Lady of Sorrow to grant us the grace to always fix our thoughts in Jesus!

Saint Padre Pio tells us, “Love Jesus, love him very much, but to do this, be ready to love sacrifice more.

Remember Mother Mary wants us to SMILE! Let us strive to always be joyful even in suffering.
